What
is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic
medicine is a synthesis of traditional and modern medical tools. By
combining ancient healing wisdom with contemporary medical
understanding, naturopathic medicine is able to bring you the best of
available healing methods. Naturopathic healing is found on the
premise that the human body can repair itself, when given the proper
conditions. And instead of treating the symptoms, naturopathic
doctors treat the whole person. They look at all aspects of a
person’s being – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – to
find the root cause of illness.

What
is the training of a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND)? Naturopathic
doctors receive extensive medical training; in many states, including
California, they are licensed primary care doctors. They have been
through the rigors of premedical studies, followed by
four more years of naturopathic medical school training. Naturopathic
doctors are versed in the medical sciences and conventional methods
of diagnosis and treatment, as well as, in-depth training in
alternative modalities.
What
is a medical intuitive?A
medical intuitive can use their intuitive abilities to “read” a
person's physical body in order to gain further insight into the
patient's physiological state. Medical intuition is not used to
diagnose disease; rather, intuition is a useful tool that can help
clarify a patient's situation, to get a view of the “bigger
picture”. Additionally, intuition can often help reveal the
underlying causes of illness, such as: physical, energetic,
emotional, mental, and/or spiritual issues that may be present in a
person's life that are contributing to a person's dis-ease. Dr. Patterson also uses her medical intuitive skills to help confirm appropriate
treatment recommendations.
Dr. Patterson has been an instructor of medical intuition for the past 8 years and in that time has greatly honed her medical intuitive skills by teaching it. From her extensive use of it she sees this modality as an integral and incredibly beneficial part of her practice. As she puts, "as soon as I started officially incorporating this modality, my job became easier and patients started getting better much faster. It's incredible how it can get to the core issues quickly and easily."
Dr. Patterson employs a wide variety of healing
methods in her practice; please visit the page "Healing Methods Employed" to learn

What
should I expect during the first visit? The
first visit is an hour and a half long, and includes a detailed
medical evaluation. In your evaluation, many factors are taken into
consideration, such as: symptom profile, diet, lifestyle, risk
factors, past medical history, and psychological stressors. Dr.
Patterson listens carefully to your description of symptoms,
complaints, and health goals. Towards the end of the first session,
Dr. Patterson will do a short, medical intuitive evaluation to begin
determining the “larger picture” of your situation. All factors
are carefully considered as she performs a meticulous evaluation of
your case. Then, Dr. Patterson begins to establish an effective
program for you based on your specific condition(s), desires and
needs.
What
should
I expect at the second and future visits?
Follow-up visits normally last for an hour. During these visits Dr. Patterson
will begin by asking you questions about any changes in your
condition(s) and progress with the treatment program (what worked,
what didn’t work, etc.) The remainder of the visit depends on each
specific patient and what is happening for them. It could be that you
wish to spend more time discussing specific goals in more detail, or perhaps a deeper medical intuitive/energy work, hypnotherapy or mind-body
counseling session may be called for or a detailed homeopathic intake— the list goes on. Thus,
each session is different, depending on the needs/desires of the patient in conjunction with where Dr. Patterson feels the energy needs to be focused based on where the patient is in their healing journey. Never the less, each session will
always end with new suggestions and updates for each patient's
treatment program.
What
tests do you run?Dr.
Patterson can run conventional and specialized laboratory testing,
providing valuable information on a patient's physiological
functioning. Dr. Patterson offers many different types of specialized
tests including: food allergy, heavy metal, hormonal analysis,
gastrointestinal function testing, liver function, etc.
How
long will it take for me to heal?
Dr.
Patterson’s goal is to help you move into health and balance in the
most direct route possible. Notwithstanding, natural healing can take
time and attention because many aspects of the self are being
addressed. The rewards, though, are immense, because the journey can
lead you to healing in a very deep, profound way. As a general
rule-of-thumb, many natural healers say that it takes one month of
healing for every year of illness. Dr. Patterson has found this to be
a relatively good measure for how long it generally takes to heal
long-standing chronic conditions.
